Along with Saugus, Newhall, and Valencia, Canyon Country is one of the four communities that form the City of Santa Clarita. The largest of these communities, Canyon Country comprises canyons and small communities, including Mint Canyon, Tick Canyon, Iron Canyon, Whites Canyon, Vasquez Canyon, Soledad Canyon, Homby Pinetree, Forrest Park, Sulphur Springs, and Solemint Junction, which originally were home to rural homes. In 1968 these communities located south and north of the Santa Clara River were renamed Canyon Country by a residents’ ballot. Canyon Country also comprises Friendly Valley, Serena Park, and prestigious Sand Canyon, which is home to large estate homes, equestrian ranches, and two championship golf courses.
Formed in 1999, the Canyon Country Better Than Better Committee works to improve the community’s general beautification, recreational opportunities, and architectural standards. Canyon Country’s diverse home tracts enjoy proximity to the community’s large shopping boulevard on Soledad Canyon Road, a Metrolink train depot, a wide array of small shops and boutiques, and an entertainment center that features a 10-screen theater and smaller businesses.
